Go step by step in upgrading your firmware so you won't miss out anything. Chances are MCE uses a 3rd party CDRW like Matsushita which I know is recognized. I upgraded my Rev D to 1.2 which now recognizes a tray-loading Panasonic (Matsushita) DVD-Rom. I saw someone lugging a Powerbook the time I went to Ayer's Rock.
