You'll be able to add it to most of the B&W G3s, unless you have SCSI 
cards only in them.  Since they are pretty easy to open, you can just 
pop one open and take a look.  As long as the connector fits, it 
should work.  SCSI and IDE have different enough connectors that it 
should be quite obvious if it will fit.

I'd add it as a second hard drive, instead of replacing it 
completely, but I also am not familiar with your backup scheme.
