Hi, Gang!

I'm looking for detailed instructions to replace the original 4 GB hard
drive in my Rev B iMac with a larger, 27.2 gig Seagate Ultra ATA/66 drive,
Model ST327240A.

What is the easiest way to transfer my old files onto the new one, which
will come to me formatted, but without a system on it? (I'll initially be
installing OS 9.1, which is what I'm running on my old hard drive.)

Here's the scenario, as best I can envision it:

If I've done a full, non-compressed backup of my entire old hard drive using
Retrospect Express V4.3, I would hope that I will be able to then do the
following:

Remove the old, Apple factory installed HD (I need detailed instructions for
how to do this!)

Install the new one, using the cables and mounts from the old drive

Boot from a Mac OS 9.1 install disk, & install OS 9.1 on the new, formatted
drive.

Install Retrospect Express from its CD

Load one after the next of my Retrospect Backup set of CD's into the iMac's
internal CD drive and copy my files onto the new drive, until they are all
installed.

Figure out what to do about the 2 copies of OS 9.1 which will then be
present on my drive. ( What do you suggest?

What have I left out, or don't comprehend in this scenario? Is there any
easier way to do this? Does everyone who swaps drives have to go through
this routine?

I also have an external Sony Spressa CD-RW which I'll use to burn my backup
set from the old hard drive before I remove it. I don't know how I'd be able
to utilize it to install my backed up files Retrospect CD set onto the new
drive, though, since the new one won't have Retrospect Express and it won't
have the Sony Spressa drivers on it after I've installed OS 9.1 on the
otherwise blank new hard drive.

What would you suggest?

Do you know of any articles or guides which have been written/posted online
dealing with this complex challenge which must at one time or another
challenge many of us?

Thank you sooo much for your input!
