Yes, you can, but doing a "Clean install" is better. First, however, make sure that you have ALL appropriate Firmware updates installed, to be safe. Boot up from your retail disc and double click on the Installer. Follow the instructions. On one of the early screens there should be an Options button. Click on it and the choice for a Clean Install should be there, IIRC. Select it and continue on.
