Hello LEMers,

I was trying to set up an online banking account for one of my credit cards
and the program advised that some of the programs (IE, for one) on my
computer were not recent enough versions.

After some juggling around I got IE 5.1.6 downloaded, installed and running
okay with my AOL 4.0. But when I tried to set up the online account again I
continued to get notices that something was still too old, but whatever it
was was never specified. Finally I got the card support services on the
phone to set it up for me and it finally seems to be doing okay.

The question I am left with now is this:

IE 5.1.6 is up and running, but it seems slow at times, so I closed it and
then apportioned more memory to it, locked it and then restarted the iMac,
rebuilding the desktop as suggested by the computer.

This does not seem to have reduced the IE number of slow (hangs) any. Do I
need to restart with the IE file *unlocked* to make the new memory take
effect? Or does that not matter in this case?

Have any of our LEMers experienced a similar problem with IE 5.1.6?... When
I go into a bulletin board that uses Perl script, and click on a message or
one of that message's replies, then use the 'back' button it also seems to
take a long time for the program to redisplay the previous message via the
'back' button.

Is there some setting I should change to minimize this delay?

Any suggestions, explanations will be appreciated...
