Well I should have also mentioned things like vastly *vastly* increased
printer compatibility, scanner compatibility, and most of all DIGITAL
CAMERA compatibility (in fact, I'll say it right here: good luck trying
to find an OS 9-compatible camera/scanner/printer/PDA/phone/etc by this
time next year!).

I'm not saying OS 9 sux, Mac OS X rulez; it's not really that simple,
and it's extremely dependent on what a user's needs currently are, and
how well they are currently being met. For many people, OS 9 (or
earlier, perhaps) does what they need it to do and works relatively
well (few crashes, freezes or problems) and they are used to the way it
works, so they plan to stick with it for a while.

Who could have a problem with that? Not me.

What I'm trying to say is that going forward, the computing world is
going to change to take advantage of new technologies, and OS 9 will
fall further and further behind on that front. I pointed out some
examples (like DSL and VPN/PPTP stuff) and omitted some good ones I
should have thought of (like printers and cameras going forward).

People who think OS 9 is going to meet their needs for years to come
*might* be right, and so consequently don't need to even think about
switching; but many people who hold this opinion are likely to be
wrong, because the rest of the world (Mac, PC, Unix, etc) are moving on
and are likely to adopt new technologies and standards that OS 9 users
will find difficult or impossible to implement.

You'll appreciate this then -- I keep clicking on the Trash can when
I'm in OS 9, expecting it to empty itself! :)

There is a name for the phenomenon you and I are experiencing --
"muscle memory." Our hands autopilot themselves over to the "old" place
to be. You *could* invest in utilities to restore those functions back
to where they "ought" to be, or you could stick with it an unlearn the
old behaviour and learn the new one. Your call.
