Hello Gentle LEMers, I'm finally beginning to investigate the purchase of Mac OS 9.2.1 for my iMac Rev A...
I need some advice tho, as to what to purchase -or not purchase. I see one website offering it at $139.00 for the full install/startup CD-ROM disc, saying that they are the only place selling this disc. (I understand that Macintosh has -or is about to- withdraw support for OS 9.) I have also seen what appears to be the same disc on eBay, but I am uncertain how reliable the descriptions are, and so ask you LEMers, what questions do I need to ask such eBay vendors -who seem to be offering this software- so that I can determine it is correctly what I need to use to upgrade with? I am currently using OS 8.6 and it serves my needs, but another user here at home wants to install a couple things that won't run on OS 8.6, hence at last, the need to upgrade < eats crow >. Would it be wise to partition my HD [never done it and don't know how to best go about that], or should I just pull OS 8.6 files off and save them off-computer? (I still have my OS 8.5 install CD-rom plus the update to 8.6 and the patches saved on an Imation superdisc, should I need to reinstall. Will I be likely to discover that many existing programs on my iMac will no longer function under OS 9.2.1? And, no, we're not at all interested at this time in jumping all the way up to OS X, so kindly consider that when making any suggestions for OS 9.2.1.
