beyond that... if a message is RTF, this list bounces the message rather than converting it to plain text. any email sent to the list that's not in ISO-8859-I and clearly marked so is bounced... that means any MIME (attachments, including HTML mail) messages are bounced back to the sender.
Mail handles HTML mail without problems. It just doesn't create it.It may be inaccurate or unfair, but I suspect the "problem" originates with Outlook Express/Entourage users, who routinely use HTML in their mail without even knowing it (curse Microsoft). It is Mail's inability to correctly handle replying to such email that causes the problem.
Most likely, these are emails that include non-standard characters or characters that only exist in certain fonts. things like the copyright symbol, many 'bullets', and various dingbat type symbols. Also it could be accented letters like � and � (those _should_ look like accented e and a, respectively), or other non-english characters.
