> I CHECKED

YOU ARE MISTAKEN. I have one sitting behind me with 1 GIG of RAM.

Apple bases its claim of the "maximum" RAM on what it has been tested
with and what was available at the time the model was introduced. They
never change this recommendation even when new RAM capacities appear.

At the time the DV SE was introduced, there *wasn't* any 512MB RAM
available for it, so Apple never tested it, and consequently can't say
that it will work. But (provided it meets the other specs I mentioned
in a previous post) it will.
