iMac 600 -384 graphite (early 2001)
Hi all -I'm new to the list.
Can someone recommend a couple of freeware applications that would allow you to
record LP's or Cassettes to your Mac Hardrive. � �I'm interested in apps. that would record
the analog sound to an ".aiff" �file. � �Any info on where to search would also be greatly appreciated.

The easiest solution is to buy an iMic ($35) and download the free "Final Vinyl" software. This allows you to plug turntables and cassette players directly into the iMic and record away.
An almost cost-free alternative for OS 9 is to use the freeware "Coaster" and whatever Radio Shack adapter you need to go from RCA stereo to 1/8th mini (your "line in" input on the side of the machine). You'll need a pre-amp or amp for your turntable of course.
It should be noted that Toast (which is not free) comes with free software to do this called "Spin Doctor."
And finally, a nearly-free solution for OS X is a freeware thing called "Audio In". It's primitive but works fine. All you need is the aforementioned cables and pre-amps, and perhaps a decent sound editor like the shareware Sound Studio ($50) to work with the files you create. There are lots of other alternatives as well.
