Slashdot is repeating a story that first appeared in DigiTimes and was confused at the outset. Quantas (the contractor that makes iMacs for Apple) says that they will be halting production of the CURRENT version of the 17" iMac in June. This does NOT mean that Apple is ceasing production of 17" iMacs. Later in the SAME ARTICLE they also claim to be producing new 17" and 19" versions of the iMac in the future. Quotes from Quantas have been ... hit and miss at best. I distinctly recall a story from over a year ago claiming that 19" iMacs were right around the corner, and another that claimed that iBooks and Powerbooks would be available in a variety of colours ... all that was a year ago. IOW, you would be best advised to take such stories with a grain of salt. Could be true, of course, but might well be totally false. _Chas_ "We don't want to be like Windows.
