I had the same problem while setting up a friends iMac while on my own
high speed non Earthlink connection. They had a regular dial-up
account and I could receive mail just fine but could not send with the
same error message you are getting. They were using Outlook Express
and Netscape for their email. We spent a couple of hours trying to
figure it out and it ended up being that we could not send at all on
the Earthlink account using an Earthlink SMTP server unless we were
actually connected to one of their connections. Something to do with
the type of account and Earthlink protocol.

You might look at what SMTP server that the Mac Mail program is using
when you send email. Very likely it is not an Earthlink one. You
might try changing SMTP servers in the Eudora then to match.

Hope this helps some,
Ken
