"Eudora version 5.1 and 5.2 requires the following changes to use
authenticated SMTP...
Eudora does not support authenticated SMTP with Mac OS X version 10.0 or
10.1. Eudora 5.2 supports authenticated SMTP on Mac OS X 10.2. Eudora 5.1
and later support authenticated SMTP on Mac 9.x."

So if you're in one of the unsupported combinations, just use your dial up
ISP's SMTP server.
