Hold down the command and "s" keys after restarting. You should get a black screen with a bunch of Unix-y gobbledy-gook. This is called "Single User Mode," and it's good because it's a basic Unix system without actually mounting your disk, so you can work on it. When all of the stuff stops, type "fsck -y" (no quotes) at the prompt and hit enter. Wait for it to do it's thing. (It will say "Checking volume bit map" and all sorts of stuff like that) When it finishes you will get a prompt again. If it found errors on your disk check (it will tell you while it's going through it's thing), run it again by typing "fsck -y" (no quotes!) again. Keep doing it until it finds no errors on your disk and says something like: "The volume xx seems to be OK." Then type "reboot" and hit enter. It will restart and reboot as usual.
