It came with Jag already on it, so I didn't bother with partitioning. The other day, Jag refused to boot. Since it is a Rev. D iMac, the OS must reside within the first 8 gig of the drive. Since I had a lot of files already on the drive, the option to do a "clean" or "archive" install was not a viable option as it would have probably placed the new OS outside the 8 gig. I had a previous problem while upgrading to 10.2.3 - it put the new system files outside of the 8 gig and wouldn't boot. I rescued it with Norton's Speed Disk, which placed all the OS files at the beginning of the disk. I tried this again the other day when it wouldn't boot up, but this time, it didn't work. All I got was a gray screen with a DOS-style prompt. It would, however, boot up in OS 9 (I was able to set the startup disk while running the Norton's CD). I made backup CDs of all my important files, and then partitioned the drive into three partitions, just as you've described above. That way, if this happens again in the future, it will only affect one portion of the drive, and I will be able to reinstall just the OS without having to reinstall everything all over again, as I am doing now. I am currently on my third day of reinstalling. I estimate it will take me about a week to get it all back to where it was. While your 500 Indigo doesn't have the 8 gig problem, this certainly shows advantages to partitioning the drive. I recommend three partitions, that way if anything goes wrong with one partition, you still have one working OS you can boot from, and it leaves the CD drive available. If for some reason you would have to reformat that partition, you won't have to start from scratch, like I just had to. Gerry -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
