Hi I run 10.2.3 on a 266MHz iMac with 288 MB and a 500MB swap partition. No speed demon but quite acceptable. I have an earlier mail (today) detailing the processes running on it. I will repeat what I said before: the main problem is virtual memory handling. Mac is not as good as Linux in that category. If you plan on running memory intensive apps. do yourself a favor and allocate at least 500MB to swap on a separate disk if possible. I go to the store repeatedly to try different machines and put loads on them and the G4s are hard to affect. In fact, under similar loads, top will take about 20% CPU on my machine whereas the G4s show 2-10% CPU - utilization and that's as it should be. I hope Apple keep tweaking the kernel and VM so as to match Linux efficiency, I've been impressed with X's security updates.
Get as much RAM as possible, have beaucoup swap and multiple disks if possible. Enjoy! -jacques.
