It's perfectly plausible to me that by sampling new records, being frustrated by slow d/l times, inferior recordings, etc., that many consumers may have been exposed to songs they otherwise wouldn't have and were thus compelled to buy the CD. With court ruling making it more difficult, maybe that's what's causing the slowdown of sales.
