A case in Norway just ruled in favor of a teenage programmer/hacker who hacked the code on a dvd movie to store it on his computer's hard drive for viewing purposes. How this came to court, I don't know. The hacker's right to transfer the content from one format to another was upheld. Here's a generalization that is controversial: copyright was never intended to allow an artist or content provider OR corporate copyright holder to profit indefinitely. Letting things go into the public domain asap is better for the economy and the culture as a whole. God help public libraries with the current Supreme Court!
