Macs will often become dangerously unstable/crashprone when the wrong
RAM is put in them. I've seen this firsthand when a friend bought 256MB
of RAM for $40 from OfficeMax and tried to use it in his iMac. Freaky
behaviour. My advice is to use what is recommended.

According to ramseeker.com, 256MB of RAM for your machine will set you
back about $35 and 512MB about $62. No offense, but these seem to me to
be ludicrously low prices and since they're guaranteed to work on your
model, whatever tiny "premium" you might pay over back-alley PC RAM
seems more than worth it to me.
