Might not work, but if it does, then no.

A client of mine uses an iMic (http://www.griffintecnology.com) all day 
attached to his *ancient* old mixing board and "conventional" 
microphone to cut radio commercials all day long. Loves it.

Digital input is of noticeably higher quality than analog input. 96Khz 
sampling as opposed to 24Khz sampling.
