To Marc
I re-read the description of FWB's Partition ToolKit
as it appears on the web. My impression is that the
app can be used on an iMac or iBook with OS9
installed, in order to create a new partition on which
OSX can then later be installed (after the fact).
Since you cannot access the internet just now I have
copied some of the specs below. Appreciate your
revision of my impression if appropriate! Mary Jo

With Partition Toolkit v. 1, you can resize Macintosh
formatted volumes to make them smaller, and then use
the new free space to create a second volume (or more)
in the format of your choice.
Previously partitioned drives or volumes could not be
easily resized without destroying the data contained
within. Adding extra partitions or volumes to a drive
usually involves the painful procedure of backing up
the data, reformatting and partitioning the drive, and
restoring the data. FWB Partition Toolkit was
created to automate the procedure of resizing and
creating new volumes on the fly without the need to
move your data to a temporary storage.

Benefits of Partitioning
Operating systems can be separated from each other
(one partition for OS X and one for OS 9) [etc etc]

[Below that it reads:]

Built to Support --
HFS, or Mac OS Standard File System, was the standard
file system prior to OS 8.1. Deemed inefficient in
terms of space usage, it has since been replaced by
HFS+. -- HFS+, or Mac OS Extended File System, is the
standard file system for OS 8.1 and higher.

[and further:]

System Requirements:
System 9.1 or 9.2.x (Does not support Classic under
Mac OSX)
Power Macintosh G3 Blue & White CPU or Above
16 MB of free RAM
SCSI or IDE Hard disk
No Firewire or USB Drive Support
CDROM Drive if running off a bootable CD
