Hello, I have a 400MHz iMac DV and wish to upgrade the hard drive.
I have 10.2.4 installed, and I want to install a 60GB hard drive. I thought off the bat the easiest way to do this would be to hook up a second hard drive and copy drive to drive. I researched that 'special' 50-pin motherboard --> 50-pin CD-ROM/DVD --> 40-pin IDE; and do not wish to mess with that arrangement, as I have read that some people could not get two hard drives to work this way. At this point I want to try this a different way. I have a 10gb iPod I could use also. Need to accomplish: Keep 10.2.4 install in tact, and have the maximum hard drive size available in OS X. In Linux, I would use dd to copy then extend the partition. HFS+ seems to be unsupported (OR VERY EXPERIMENTAL) in other OSes... In Windows, I would use dd in linux, then use partition magic to expand... Can I install OS X on the iPod, boot from it, and SOMEHOW keep everything intact to complete this upgrade? This seems to be something people must want to do, I just can't find any help online. Thanks in advance for any help. Chad -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
