I wondered the same thing.  Accidently I burned a cd of jpegs while in 
iPhoto.  When I took the cd to work I tried it in the PC and a folder 
labeled iPhoto appeared once I opened the cd.  Clicking on the folder 
you find more folders.  I kept opening them until I found my photos 
which opened just fine.
