Forgive me if I'm a little confused. It's been awhile since I learned about the internals of computer hard drives, but what I believe he is saying is that he physically wants to "exchange" the hard drive platters (which hold all his important data), from his non working hard drive, and put them into a hard drive which does work. I think hard drives have magnetic platters or disks in them which are stacked and have the data recorded on them. He *might* just need a hard drive box ti install his old platters into.
Was that kind of a far fetched guess??
