Hello Gentle LEM Listers, I just bought an install CD-rom disc for OS 9 from half.com. The disc says 'featuring Sherlock 2' on the front and is also labelled in tiny type, version 9.2.1 and 691-3334-A. Disc indicates a copyright on it of 2001, and in the read me file says that it was last updated April 2001.
The vendor said it would install okay in my iMac Rev. A. I have 386 meg RAM maxxed in the machine, and will be upgrading from OS 8.6. This iMac originally came with OS 8.1 loaded in it and I upgraded that to OS 8.6 via a download off the net. I am upgrading now mostly because I need to also upgrade my VPC from 2.2 to 4.0 or 5.0 before too long. I have backed up my OS 8.6 files onto an Imation Super Disc (120 meg) and am wondering what likely problems I may encounter during the install/upgrade process. Are there any major (common) software programs that have known incompatibilities with OS 9.2.1? Everything I hear from users suggest that it is a very stable OS... I ask all this since I have never undertaken a system upgrade other than the 8.1 to 8.6 that I mention above. Any advice you can give to a relative newbie for accomplishing this sort of thing in the least painful manner would be welcomed and appreciated. Remember, I am the mostly lurking LEM Lister who several months back wrote here that he did not want to be dragged 'kicking and screaming into the future'...
