Er, it looks like an OK error to me (at least, if you accept the
legitimacy of error numbers in lieu of actual error messages ;)).
smtp.comcast.net *IS* an invalid mail server if you try to access it
to send outgoing mail from outside comcast's domain (like from cox.net,
as your friend tried to do).  Virtually all ISPs stopped accepting
outgoing mail from outside their domains years ago (because spammers
were abusing it by dumping their outgoing mail into other ISPs smtp
servers in an effort to forge headers and evade service restrictions).
