Thanks Anne and Dennis. It seems my OS 9.2 is a bit different than my former 9.1.5 - I can't find the menus, options, etc. you talk about, although I remember using them quite plainly before I changed over to 9.2. The way things look now, there's just no way I can silence that annoying voice that comes with an error. Zippy
Ok, I just checked my System 9.2.2 System Folder. In the Control Panels folder is a Speech Control Panel. Opening that presented me with the check boxes to enable the talking alerts after I chose Talking alerts from the popup menu. IF you are using 9.2.2 AND there isn't a Speech control panel in the Control Panels folder, see if there is a "Control Panels (Disabled)" folder. If so, look in it and see if the Speech control panel is there. If it is, drag it into the "Control Panels" folder (or use Extensions Manager to activate it). If you can't find the Speech panel in the Disabled folder, then it was probably trashed and you will need to do a custom reinstall to get it.
