I'm using the Epson 740 with my PowerBook under 9.2.2 and it doesn't appear to do Desktop Printing. It may be due to how Epson does their printer software, or (someone more knowledgeable correct me here) that 9.2.2 does away with Desktop Printing for non-Apple printers. I know I had it under earlier MacOS versions with my StyleWriter II (a Canon with Apple logo on it - and maybe Apple drivers). Actually, there were some other features with the SW-II that I wish the Epson had (but then we'd be going way off-topic)... What I do is to use the Chooser to enable background printing, print a plain dummy document to the Epson (and immediately stop the Printer queue) and set its priority to Hold, and then most of the time I just queue the prints to the Epson Monitor (the name usually has a number after "Epson Monitor ") and then when I'm offline I just print out everything (more RAM available for the printer and System then). Just did a check, and Chooser won't let me make any Memory allocations for it, so it must just use what it needs from the System when printing.
