That's because you, the browser user, shouldn't have to worry about it if the person(s) creating the web site has done their job(s) properly. This is really just a symptom of the 'Gee, doesn't everyone use IE6?' mentality that infects some web designers [sic]. They make zero effort to ensure their web site renders properly (or at all!) with older or alternative browsers--even to the extent of not taking the trouble to detect which browser/version you have and at least putting out a 'Sorry, our website doesn't support your browser/version' message. (And by older/alternative browsers, I don't mean Mosaic 1.0; but IE5 and Netscape 7.0 at a minimum). The good news is that this problem is somewhat self-correcting. Web sites that don't display properly with older/alternative browsers are limiting the number of potential visitors--it's their own self-inflicted loss. Most of the large commercial websites like Amazon, CNN, etc. manage to get their content out without exclusively relying on features available only in IE6--they go out of their way to support a variety of browsers/versions (it's not even that expensive--there are plenty of tools and html validators to help ensure a site will render properly with a variety of browsers). I guess you could say they want our business (or visit) more than than they want to use the latest IE6 features. ;) Sorry to rant on, but this is one of my pet peeves. -Jeff [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- "You can't brew a premium lager with a kool-aid mentality." --Harold Green in _The_Red_Green_Show_ -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
