Believe it or not, there ARE legitimate reasons to send email to a large number of people. However, to be on the safe side R.A., you might consider calling or emailing each person you plan to email to confirm that they do, in fact, wish to receive the email that you are about to send. Or perhaps registered US Mail would be a better idea. I usually send all my emails 6 or 8 times to be sure one goes through. R.A., another thing you might do to work around the addressee limit would be to set up several groups in your address book, if you routinely mail to the same individuals.
