Thanks for all of your responses. Here is more detail on the problem.
333Mhz iMac (Strawberry) 64 Meg Ram Got it with no HD
I put a Apple OE HD into it. Reformatted it. Tried OS 8.5, 9.1,9.2.2. Wont
boot off of the HD. Will boot off the system CD. Can see the HD. TechTool
Pro gives it a thumbs up.
On re-boot, I get the flashing file/? Indefinitely. Reset the PRAM, pressed
the CUDA, tried a different HD, pulled out the upper memory and VRAM,
replaced the upper memory replaced the HD and still - nada!
You can only run 9.2+ by using a hack. If you have installed one of Sonnett or Technwarehouses G4 upgrades then 9.2 should work. Otherwise it is behaving exactly as it should. Stop at 9.1 and all will work well.
Not as much of a one, if I read things more closely. <G>
How's that for a puzzler!!!
