Wow... That was easy enough. Turns out that the iMac was merely in need of the firmware update. :-)

Thank you to every one who helped me, and hopefully any others who may have had this problem as well.

Be glad you've got another monitor to look at -- by the time I
discovered the solution to the problem on my DV, the monitor was too
dark and murky to be certain I was hitting the right buttons on the
update installer. The display problems were history as soon as I
rebooted following the update.
