In his article, "A Week with an eMac Finds It an Excellent Value," I

it makes bootable backups of your hard drive.

When I bought an external HD, I backed up my entire internal HD in one
drag-and-drop operation, including the applications and the files. Should I
assume that I did NOT make a bootable backup? I'm on an iMac DV 400.
If you're using OS9? Then the drag and drop would be OK. If you're using OS X? Then you do not have a bootable back up. You do want CCC (a great utility) for that. CCC is very easy to use, works great and does what it promises.
