IDG World Expo, the company that organizes MacWorld and many other major
expos, made the decision to move MacWorld Expo back to it's Boston roots.
Jobs was outraged and pulled the plug on all Apple involvement.

NYC seems like the most logical place to hold the expo, due to the huge
creative and media clientele in that area.

However, Jobs more likely pulled out as a political statement.

Apple still has to release every 6 months to remain competitive, but they're
doing it at different places.

As you notice, the big summer G5 announcement was made at the World Wide
Developers Conference in San Francisco. Jobs basically ran the same dog and
pony show for an elitist group of developers. Many Mac sites ran live
coverage of the event that day. There was also a satellite broadcast that
people could hop on, and a webcast followed later in the day... all just
like with MacWorld.

Apple hosts many private functions throughout the year, so there is no
shortage of events to release products at. It will be interesting to see how
this trend continues.
