Could you give me an explanation why it won't. I don't have the CD and
am interested it knowing what the reason is. I can't see why not having
built in USB would be a factor for a computer not being able to run an
OS.

It's not the fact that the USB is built-in or not that's the key, it's the ROM in machines that have built-in USB. Their ROM file is different from machines that don't.


Apple just uses the "USB built-in" requirement to easily communicate which machines have the right ROM for Panther and which don't. Hope that helps.
