My iMac G4/17"/OSX10.2.6 has been doing weird things lately and when I've rebooted, all the desktop icons become rearranged. I've also been getting messages that a file in an older Norton software package may have to be upgraded or fixed. Last night, I uploaded some photos to the Mac, printed them out, then clicked another icon in the dock bar. The whole dock bar just vanished. After rebooting, I just had a blue screen with no desktop icons. I rebooted again and there was a message on the blue screen saying I may want to upgrade that Norton software. Several more attempts (I'm used to older Macs so I did a "soft-boot" which I thought was booting with extensions off) were not successful. Just a blue screen. I don't have an OSX disc to boot from. I hope nothing is fried.
Go here for some info on what to do when you encounter a blue screen at startup:

Looks like it would be a good idea to try to run fsck, if you can: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
If/when you get operational do a search and destroy for any Norton component installed on your drive.
