This is one of the things iPhoto does beautifully with .mac. It
automatically reduces the size of your pictures, so that - just to show an
example - one of mine 2040*1536 pixels, 960 KB, became 800*600, 93,5 KB
automatically when uploaded to .mac with iPhoto. You don't even have to
think about it. Apple in a nutshell.

I use different means of showing my photos on the net, and have used a
number of different applications to select, resize, build pages with
thumbnails and individual pages for all pictures and upload the bunch.
iPhoto is by far the easiest way to get pictures on the net, and I would be
very pleased to pay my DKK 999 for this service alone.

I do however enjoy fiddling with my own server, and have a number of photos
online there as well. I use BetterHTMLExporter for those, but I spend more
time on it than when I use .mac.

I also really enjoy iSync, that lets me syncronize Safari bookmarks, iCal
calendar entries and my Address Book between my iBook and my iMac. (I can't
wait to get a bluetooth adapter for my new T68i telephone!)

The games have also been a fun extra of course. Marble Blast rocks!
Dropstuff is great to have too.

Backup is not stable enough for me to use it, and iDisk is too slow for me.
I have sufficient server space around for that to make a difference. I
haven't used any of the training classes, but they seem alright.

iCards are cute, but I haven't used Virex at all. My mailaddress, I use for
lists and when I buy stuff, or when I want to make the statement that I am a
happy Mac-user.

I can recommend you to have a look at
http://www.dotmac.info
to see a community of .mac-users home pages and stuff.

To show two different ways of putting photos on the net, I have here a page
made with iPhoto and .mac:
http://homepage.mac.com/kgani/PhotoAlbum13.html
And a similar one at
http://www.kimsserver.dk/jazz5
This one made with BetterHTMLExport from iPhoto, hosted at home on my old G3
(uptime 95 days, 10.1.5 rocks too!). Notice that I get my camera
information with the full size photos this way.

$99 may be a lot, but I think it is worth it.

Cheers,

Kim
