System Preferences --> Energy Saver --> Sleep Put both sliders all the way to the right where it says "Never"; uncheck "Put hard disk ..." Under the Options tab, make any changes you desire.
Then put the sliders over the time delay you desire AND check the "Put hard disk ..." box. You can also do it manually via the "Apple" Menu.
If that doesn't work, make sure that you shutdown all running applications. And if that doesn't work, then be like Kyle: just shutdown the computer when you're finished.
