accessing network

Way back when using OS 9 (for me, about a week ago), when I wanted to 
access another computer on our ethernet, I'd save an Alias of the 
computer's name (once it arrived on my desktop). That Alias contained 
the necessary signon name and password.

Now, in Jaguar, is there anyway to make that signing in process as easy 
or easier than that?
