You can still create the alias like in OS 9 and click it for access. The
first time you do that for each different networked computer in OS X, the
login window will come up asking for your account info. Click the "Options"
button and select "Add to keychain."

After the login info is added to the keychain, you'll be able to click on
the alias and mount the drive instantly as you did in 9.
