It sounds to me like bad RAM, or a loose connection of the RAM.
However, there are more experienced experts on this list...

Hi everyone! :)
Well I'm new to iMacs but it looks like I am going to get a good dunking. I
know my way around Mac desktops pretty well. Primarily use an s900 w/ G4
processor. I recently picked up an iMac. According to the little round
emblem on the bottom, it is a 233mhz Model. We'll call her Blue.

Here's the problem. When it powers up, I get the chime, continues powering
for about three quarters of a second longer and then the machine completely
shuts down. The only way to to get it to at least do that again is to
press the cuda switch. If I don't, then it won't even attempt that feeble
start up again.

The battery is fine. Tried resetting the firmware. The hard drive is fine
and has an OS installed which was verified by hooking it up to another
computer. It kinda seems like a Power Supply issue but of course, that
could be just a symptom of something else like mobo, bad ram, or whatever?
So I am hoping that somebody here can provide a little guidance in bringing
this back to life.

Thanks much in advance, Dave
