I have 2 IMACs and one is a 233mg original and one is a IMAC 400. The 233
does that. It starts to boot then dies. I have to unplug same as yours. I
took it apart and removed the video ram and it boots but of course there
isn't anything on the screen due to no video ram.

You might check this out and if yours does the same, replace the video ram.
