Hopefully your guess is correct. Of course, it seems like a lot of trouble to go to just to cackle gleefully at another download. Without an image of your disk(s) pre-installation, it would be hard to tell what "extra functionality" your system now possesses.

You might want to get something to monitor outgoing connections
for a while to see if there's anything unexpected going on.  If
you care.
