How's this for a better description: A Mac emulator is a program that creates a virtual Mac inside your PC - it allows you to run the Mac OS and Mac software because it translates all the instructions meant for the Mac processor, and converts them into instructions that the PC's processor can understand. It does not replace the Windows OS (although you could make it look that way by running it in full screen mode) it's just another Windows program.
10/10 IMO ---

Well, that's something to keep an eye on, but are there any Power Mac emulators that you can download right now?
No, there was a lot of big words from a guy called Darek at emulators.com but years later, there's still nothing to show for all his big words... ---
Also, the "computer within a computer" situation that Emulators create tends to be slow, buggy, and often incompatible.
the software I want to run on it will always use some sort of non-standard
trick to do it's thing, that works on the real hardware, but confuses the heck
out of the emulator.
Precisely the point, non-standard programming will cause problems, maybe not on that particular Mac/PC but on a different setup, there will be problems. ---
As far as speed goes, I once heard that you needed a computer ten times faster than the one you wanted to emulate to get comparable speed.
This depends completely upon how well written the emulator is AND how much of the existing hardware is used as is.
Virtual PC run on a Mac with USB needs utilises the hardware and built in drivers in order to use the port, what suffers the most is the CPU as this is where all the software translation is done, but 10:1 is a riddiculus figure!!
I once ran Windows 3.1 on my old PowerBook 180 at University. Ok, it was completely unusable, but still emulating a PC running Windows on a 68030... :o)
