Hi all,
I have a Sage iMac (450mhz/20G/320ram) that I just bought a couple days ago.
I've installed OS 9.2.2 on it, and attempted to install OS X.0.3. The OS X
disk said I needed to update the firmware, which I did. Then I tried to run
the OS X installer. After restarting, the dialog box with the progress bar
comes up and says 'preparing to install'... but it never gets past that....
it keeps trying... spinning CD icon in the top left of the screen...but
nothing ever happens beyond that.
Is the problem that I'm using a X.0.3 disk? (This disk arrived in the mail
shortly after my husband bought his iBook a couple years ago, but it doesn't
specifically say for iBook.) I also have a G4- would the OS disk from that
work? Or do I need to purchase OS X separately for the iMac? And forgive my
lack of understanding (I'll blame it on a difficult pregnancy and subsequent
5 months of sleep deprivation... major loss of brain cells) but is Jaguar an
update - or an actual upgrade that needs to be purchased even if one already
owns X? And Panther? And would it be the 'Family Pack' I need to buy in
order to install Jaguar (or Panther) on more than one machine?
I would first like to get OS X running on the Sage iMac, and eventually make
the switch on my G4. The G4 does have some version of OS X installed
(10.1.5) - but I gave up on it, as it had some problems when switching back
to OS 9 - and since the G4 is my work machine, I can't be losing all that
work time for troubleshooting.
I've tried to make sense of the upgrade path on apple's website, but it
leaves me baffled. Could someone steer me clearly? And keep it simple ; )
