Help! My partner spilled milky, sugary coffee on the keyboard. We took all the keys off and wiped down everything with hot water but still does not work at all. Is there anything else one can do or should we just get a new one? I've heard of miracle rescues but has anyone ever really saved their keyboard? thanks in advance. TmB
As that little, yellow headed kid says: "Been there, done that". All is not lost. If it's dried then immerse the keyboard in cool water and let it soak. Then wash it either manually with warm water and flush well, or the dishwasher. (without detergent)
Let it thoroughly dry. May take a few days depending on ambient temperature. In a rush people have used hair dryers, ovens at very low temperature, put the keyboard on the roof in the summer sun, etc..
It usually works well. I've recovered keyboards from dried coffee with cream and sugar, cola beverage and various other substances of unknown origin. If it doesn't work, your only out your time, and new keyboards are not that expensive.
If you catch the spill immediately then just flushing it well and letting it dry will usually be all that it takes.
