This depends on what you mean by "Panther."
If you mean JUST the OS itself (system+hidden), then no it does not take up "lots more" room than Jag.
If you mean the OS + all the apps and BSD stuff and ect whatnot that it installs by default, then I'd have to say it takes up maybe a small amount more room than Jag.
For reference, I have a drive partition with the last developer seed of Panther (that was about three weeks ago now). The only things I have added to it were a few applications that are not installed by default (like Toast 6 for testing) and my own user folder which of course contains my documents.
Taking a quick look, I estimate I've added about 600MB of stuff to a "clean" install of Panther (default except that I didn't install any extra languages or non-Epson printer drivers). Deducting my stuff, it's taking up about 3.2GB on my drive, but if I used Delocalizer (www.bombich.com) to remove all non-English language packages, I could probably get that just under 3GB.
