So, to answer your question: Okay, it was a bit of a "surmise" on my part. I am assuming that the Panther OS will be bigger than Jag (which is at least a Gig-plus, right?) just based on the trend I've seen from 8.6 to 9.x to X. Considering the additional features in Panther, maybe it will be close to 2 Gigs? I guess we'll see.
Panther doesn't seem to be hugely bigger than Jaguar. I can't tell you exactly how big "Jaguar" is on my system since I've added/enhanced/modified too much of it to give you an answer that would resemble a "clean" install, but to follow up on my own post above I took a look at the sizes of the actual System folders of Jag and Panther (development version, final may be slightly different):
Jag 10.2.8 System folder: 648.8 MB Panther WWDC Preview System folder: 1,008.7MB
As I already mentioned, a "clean" install of Panther (+apps and everything Panther normally installs) could be as little as 3GB if you use Delocalizer to remove unused languages. That said, anyone thinking of installing Panther on a small drive or partition needs to bear in mind that all OS X drives need an extra 880MB to 1GB of free space for temp files/virtual memory. If you have less than 1GB free on your OS X drive you are *asking for trouble.*
Also, it should be noted that OS X needs a LOT of free space available when installing. I would be mildly surprised if Panther would even LET you install on a 4GB drive unless you did a custom install to prevent installing unused stuff (like extra printer drivers etc).
I think for all intents and purposes the smallest partition you would want to install Panther on would be 5-6GB, particularly if you want to allow for future maintenance fixes etc.
