Chas, You misunderstood. I am not downloading older OS files. I meant I have been downloading programs (e.g. Cabrio) for older systems with older operating systems.
Everything I have downloaded has been programs or drivers, nothing made by Microsoft. By the way once these downloads are complete nothing has been unstuffed or extracting on the mac I am having the problems below with. If you are downloading OS files for "older macs and older operating systems," there's a REAL good chance that you accidentally overwrote the existing (current) MS support files with older versions.
