Just for your info I was able to wipe my drive and reinstall iTunes with 
the same playlists and libraries......this is what I did....i wanted to 
maintain the order and playlists ....

booted iTunes.....did not have it search for music.....it them created a 
folder and music library file........

unique to my situation was that I keep my music files on a second 
drive.....so I just moved the original files other than the folder to 
replace the new ones created by the boot of iTunes....and it worked fine.

If you need actual detail and a more precise explanation I would be glad 
to help.

In that user's Music folder should be a folder called "iTunes." Inside 
that should be another folder called "iTunes Music" along with a few 
other files with names like "iTunes 4 Music Library." Move all those 
files (if any) to the trash (*not* the folder called "iTunes Music" -- 
just the other files!).

You may also need to remove the com.apple.iTunes.plist file from that 
user's Library/Preferences folder.

Now launch iTunes, and it will behave as though this is the first time 
it's been launched. It will ask if you want it to automatically search 
and add music to the Library. Yes you do.
